8th Indonesian Varsities English Debate 2005
"The Real Taste Of Debate"
Feb 11, 2005 - Feb 16, 2005
Project Manager : Indra Cahya
IVED (Indonesian Varsities English Debate) is the most prestigious English debating competition in Indonesia. Aproximately 30 universities participate in IVED annually.

IVED is also the most competitive English debating competition, and you can find the best debaters and adjudicators in Indonesia, right here in IVED.

IVED was first held by University of Indonesia, back then in 1998. And since then, IVED has been hosted by different universities; including Universitas Hassanuddin(Makasar), Universitas Kristen Petra(Surabaya), and Universitas Sumatera Utara(Medan).

As for the 8th IVED (2005) Bina Nusantara University, through Bina Nusantara English Club has the prestigious chance to be the host.

58 teams from 37 universities all over Indonesia participates in the 8th IVED 2005 of Bina Nusantara University, including Personal Management College Indonesia (Medan), Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (Banjarmasin), Universitas Udayana(Denpasar), and many others. We also has a special invited adjudicator from Society of Assosiated Inter-tertiary Debaters, Singapore, Mr. Loke Wing Fatt. The 8th IVED 2005, with total more than 400 people in the competition, making this IVED the largest IVED ever held.

Lots of new innovations was introduced. The preliminaries round was increased to 7, due to the increasing number of teams. The Master's Debate adapting the British Parliamentary was introduced for the first time in Indonesia. A Computerized Tabulation System, using Binus' intranet and computer terminals, was used for the first time in the debating world, providing a faster and more accurate data.

Overall, we managed to host the event successfully. Not only we were able to host the biggest IVED ever at the time, we were also able to lift a better debating championship standard.

BNEC English Olympic 2003
Jan 13, 2003 - Jan 17, 2003
Project Manager : Meity Margareta
BEO 2003 (BNEC English Olympic) is the first English Competition ever held by BNEC. Using Olympic as the theme of this competition is a whole new thing in the comparison with other competitions. While other competitions? participants register as individual, we register them as contingent. Meaning, that all of the participants will struggle in the name of their contingent. Like the Olympics Games, we give the winner of every competition medal and for the contingent that won the most gold medal, we?ll give a big, worth-fighting-for Grand Champion trophy.

We acknowledged the similarity in holding English-based competition nowadays, that it needs a variety. To create something new, we adopt the Olympics system. That?s where the original idea of BEO 2003 came from.

There are 5 subjects of competition : karaoke, story telling, news casting, presenting idea, and scrabble.
